Erik,

Here are additional ideas on how people exhibiting at trade shows can generate publicity from the show:

--Ask the show manager for a list of media that will be attending. Then contact reporters a few weeks before the show to see if they're interested in setting up an appointment with you, or meeting you for coffee. You might sweeten the invitation by telling them you'll fill them in on trends you're seeing in your industry.

--Most bigger trade shows have a press room where members of the media can write their stories. You probably wot't get access to the room, but it never hurts to hang out near the door and approach reporters who come and go. Introduce yourself. Tell them what you do. And invite them to your booth. Or offer a few story ideas.

--Follow up! If you were able to connect with journalists, call the week after the show to pitch a story idea, even if it isn't about you. If you can give them a great idea, they will view you as a valuable source and come back to you again and again to find out what else you know.

Just remember, it's all about building relationships.
